In 1912, the Sardinian Renzo Frau registered the Poltrona Frau
tradename with the Turin Chamber of Commerce. Following a series of generational handovers, in 1962, the Nazareno Gabrielli group bought out the Turin company, which one year later moved to Tolentino. In 1980s, Poltrona Frau expanded its production to include the automotive and contract sectors.
In 2004 the company became Poltrona Frau Group together with Cassina and Cappellini. In 2014, the Haworth family purchased the Poltrona Frau Group, which in 2025 became Haworth Lifestyle. Haworth Lifestyle is a federation of leading global design brands part of Haworth Inc., a US company operating in commercial furniture and interiors with over 8.000 members worldwide. On March 22, 2012, Poltrona Frau inaugurated its first mono-brand showroom in the southern part of the African continent. In collaboration with George Giorgio, an architect with great expertise in design, the showroom assists clients and design professionals in realizing new interior opportunities for luxury residential and commercial properties by providing exclusive working solutions and Poltrona Frau products to support their specific needs.
The store is situated in the design district, a strategic reference area for the most important architecture studios in Cape Town. Located at the junction of Somerset and Cobern Road, the store is inspired by the Jean-Marie Massaud concept that Poltrona Frau has adopted in all its stores worldwide.
